Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit; Bex was always a fan of the Moonwalk having completed it in 2005, and we had been talking in her last months about perhaps doing a shorter one together.  So when Bex's mum, Mary, suggested we should take part in the Chiswick House Pink Ribbon Walk, it felt like exactly the right thing to do.

In 2017 Bex was diagnosed with primary breast cancer, and in January 2019 she became became one of the 30% of people who go on to develop secondary breast cancer, also known as metastatic breast cancer (mets/Stage 4). Secondary breast cancer is treatable, although currently incurable. The average life expectancy for people with mets is 2-3+ years. Bex spent two years #BusyLivingWithMets but sadly, on Thursday 18th February 2021, she became one of the 31 people who die everyday from secondary breast cancer in the UK. #IAmThe31.

Bex felt strongly that more focus was urgently needed in secondary breast cancer research, as it has not been given enough priority. Breast Cancer Now have committed to ensuring that the funds raised here will be used for secondary cancer research. This will make a difference for people like Bex.

Breast Cancer Now’s much-loved walks have been on hold for two years, but breast cancer hasn’t stopped. Thousands more people have been diagnosed since the last Pink Ribbon Walk. They need our support, now more than ever. By sponsoring my Pink Ribbon Walk you can help change the future of breast cancer. Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
