Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and support us. Bex loved swimming, particularly wild swimming! So to celebrate her we are planning a wild swim (with challenges!) on Saturday 15th May to raise much needed funds for secondary breast cancer research in her memory.

In 2017 Bex was diagnosed with primary breast cancer, and in January 2019 she became became one of the 30% of people who go on to develop secondary breast cancer, also known as metastatic breast cancer (mets/Stage 4). Secondary breast cancer is treatable, although currently incurable. The average life expectancy for people with mets is 2-3+ years. Bex spent two years #BusyLivingWithMets but sadly, on Thursday 18th February 2021, she became one of the 31 people who die everyday from secondary breast cancer in the UK. #IAmThe31.

Bex felt strongly that more focus was urgently needed in secondary breast cancer research, as it has not been given enough priority. Breast Cancer Now have committed to ensuring that the funds raised here will be used for secondary cancer research. This will make a difference for people like Bex.
